Ureteral Stricture / Boari Flap
WHAT IS URETHRAL STRICTURE?
Urethral stricture, or urethral stenosis, is a condition in which the urethra is narrowed or blocked, impeding the normal flow of urine from the urinary bladder out of the body. Causes of urethral stricture can vary, including previous injuries, infections, or surgical procedures. Symptoms of urethral stricture include difficulty urinating, pain during urination, or incontinence.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of urethral stricture typically begins with a medical examination and history taking. Additional tests such as urethroscopy, ultrasound, or cystoscopy may be required to confirm the diagnosis. These tests help doctors determine the degree of stricture and establish the best approach to treatment.
TREATMENT OPTIONS - BOARI FLAP
One of the effective surgical options for treating urethral stricture is the Boari Flap procedure. During this procedure, the surgeon uses a portion of tissue from the bladder to reconstruct the narrowed part of the urethra. Boari Flap enables normal urine flow through the urethra and usually results in symptom improvement in patients with urethral stricture. This is a complex surgical procedure that requires an experienced urologist, but it can significantly improve the function of the urinary system and the quality of life for patients.
