How an Anesthesiologist Can Help You
An anesthesiologist’s role is crucial to the surgical process. They are responsible for the preoperative preparation of patients, ensuring they are in an optimal state for surgery. Patients with significant chronic conditions must be appropriately prepared by their respective specialists. The anesthesiologist also conducts preoperative assessments in hospital settings when necessary, providing the final review of the patient’s health status, giving the green light for surgery, and determining the anesthesiological risk category.
PROFESSIONAL PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH TO PATIENT CARE:
“A crucial aspect of an anesthesiologist’s role involves the personal interaction with patients during the pre-anesthetic consultation. This is a time for an in-depth discussion about the patient’s medical history, ongoing medications, lifestyle habits, and any previous experiences with anesthesia, providing a comprehensive understanding of each individual’s needs. It’s essential for an anesthesiologist to clearly explain the upcoming procedures and potential risks involved, particularly to those who may be facing surgery for the first time. Patients often express concerns about remaining conscious during the procedure or fears about not awakening from anesthesia. My responsibility is to address these concerns, offering reassurance and support, ensuring patients feel understood and secure when confronted with unfamiliar situations.”
