Thoracic surgery
SMH APPROACH:
Thoracic surgery plays a crucial role in resolving health issues related to the lungs, chest, and other essential organs within the thoracic cavity. This specialty covers a broad spectrum of medical procedures and interventions, targeting the treatment of lung, breast, and esophageal tumors and carcinomas, reconstructing chest wall injuries, and surgically managing conditions like pneumothorax and emphysema.
Our thoracic surgeons are deeply engaged in diagnosing and treating various lung cancers, providing an array of critical procedures for these patients, such as pleural taps, needle biopsies of tumors, and thoracic drainages.
One standout area within thoracic surgery is VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery), a cutting-edge minimally invasive technique that allows for an in-depth examination of the chest cavity. We're proud to include Colonel Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nebojša Marić in our team, a thoracic surgery specialist renowned for his VATS expertise. A pioneer in the region, Dr. Marić was among the first to perform video-assisted lung resections and complete lung removals over a decade ago. Also on our team is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milan Savić, a veteran thoracic surgeon with a wealth of experience in lung cancer treatment. He is skilled in performing pleural taps, needle biopsies of the pleura, thoracic drainages, and the noted VATS procedures.
MEDICAL TEAM:
Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) is a chest surgery performed through small incisions in the skin, utilizing flexible endoscopic instruments and a video camera.
These are crucial diagnostic procedures for thoracic surgeons, involving the removal of fluid from the pleural space and the collection of samples for further analysis.
